INTERCULTURAL TOOLKITS
Crossing Borders Films (CBF) will produce a variety of intercultural toolkits for different American target groups, using film excerpts of the CBF trilogy (www.cb-films.org). The toolkits together with the CBF trilogy will be designed as a Cross-Cultural Crash-Course that supports students in the process of integrating intercultural experiences abroad and at home. CBF aims to create the Study Abroad Toolkit by December 2014 and Internationalization Toolkits for high schools and community colleges throughout 2015.
The Study Abroad Toolkit:
The toolkit will be designed for intercultural sessions before, during and after a study abroad experience. Currently CBF envisions following five modules:
- Pre-Departure Orientation: Delivered at home campuses bringing students of different study abroad destinations together.
- First Exposure & Culture Shock: Delivered in country during the first third of the study abroad experience.
- Connecting to Local Culture & Building Multi Cultural Teams: Delivered in country approximately half way through the study abroad period.
- Integrating Intercultural Experiences & On becoming Global Citizens: Delivered in country during the last third of the study abroad experience.
- Re-entry Orientation & Integration of Intercultural Insights: Delivered at home campuses bringing students of different study abroad destinations together.
Each module will consist of:
- Film Excerpts of the CBF trilogy
- Interview pieces that link the insights of the film excerpts with the educational materials.
- A brief manual and supporting materials for study abroad advisors and intercultural educators.
- Practical student exercises for each module.
- Supporting student materials to deepen each modules insights.
